Spectrographic determination of trace amounts of some elements in metallic aluminium

Description

A spectrographic method for the determination of twenty trace elements in aluminium metal by the carrier distillation technique has been developed. The following elements were considered: B, Cd, Bi, Cu, Fe, Mg, Mn, Cr, Pb, Si, Zn, Ti, Ca, Na, Ga, Ni, Sb, V, Sn and Ag. AgCl, In2O3, NaF, Ga2O3, GeO2 and CuF2 were tested as carriers. The best results were obtained by using 2% In2O3 and 6% AgCl on an alumina base. Several aluminum oxide samples with the same chemical composition of aluminum sulfate and nitrate, according to a temperature program, were submitted to spectrochemical analysis. The standards were prepared by means of two differet methods: dry mixing technique and thermal decomposition of aluminum nitrate at 8000C. Some considerations on matrix effects and on the extent to which it affects the accuracy of the method, are presented. The standard deviation of the method varies from + - 5% to + - 27%. The accuracy was examined with the aid of X-ray fluorescence technique. (C.L.B.)

Apresenta-se um metodo espectrografico para a determinacao de vinte impurezas, ao nivel de tracos, em aluminio, aplicando a tecnica de destilacao fracionada com carregadores. Foram investigadas as seguintes impurezas: B, Cd, Bi, Cu, Fe, Mg, Mn, Pb, Si, Zn, Sn, Ti, Ca, Na, Cr, Ga, Ni, Sb, V e Ag. Estudou-se os carregadores AgCl, In2O3, NaF, Ga2O3, GeO2 e CuF2. Os melhores resultados foram obtidos com 2% de In2O3 e 6% de AgCl, isoladamente, em alumina. Apresenta-se, tambem, os resultados da analise espectrografica de varios oxidos de aluminio de mesma composicao quimica, mas obtidos segundo um estudo de decomposicao termica do sulfato e do nitrato de aluminio. Estudou-se o uso de padroes preparados por duas tecnicas: homogeneizacao de solidos e decomposicao termica do nitrato de aluminio a 8000C. Apresenta-se consideracoes sobre o efeito da matriz e como ela afeta a exatidao do metodo. Calculou-se a precisao do metodo proposto. Os desvios padroes relativos situam-se na faixa de + - 5% a + - 27%. A exatidao dos resultados foi avaliada, para alguns elementos, por fluorescencia de raios X. (Autor)
