Opportunities for efficient use of electric power

With reference to the growing power demand situation in Italy and the strategies of ENEL (Italian National Electricity Board) geared towards the optimization of the end use of electricity, this paper focuses on ways in which electricity could best be used in the services sector. Making reference to overall consumption data in Italy for street lighting, space heating and cooling, and mass transportation, the paper indicates how the infusion of more technologically advanced and efficient electrical equipment such as heat pumps and superconductors can increase overall energy efficiency
