Infall of a star into a massive black hole

  • 1. Department of Astronomy, University of California-Los Angeles

Description

We calculate the radial infall of a star into a massive black hole using a momentum-conserving version of the smoothed particle hydrodynamics. The star is disrupted after it passes through the Roche radius, and it flows onto the black hole in a thin stream. We distinguish among parameter regimes which govern the flow
