The usefulness of target CT in orbital, sellar, and parasellar lesions

Description
Fifty-four cases of orbital, sellar, parasellar, and paranasal lesions were examined by means of target CT. Transverse and coronal target CT was superior to conventional CT in the visualization of small anatomic structures, such as optic canals, orbital walls, and paranasal sinuses. Transverse target CT was more effective than conventional CT in demonstrating orbital lesions, such as mucoceles, meningiomas, and ethmoid osteoblastoma. Coronal target CT was more effective than conventional CT in demonstrating blow-out fractures, mucoceles, and aneurysms. In general, target CT was superior to plain radiography conventional tomography and conventional CT in the demonstration of orbital-wall fractures and the invasion of paranasal sinuses. (author)
