A new method for quantifying human platelet-vascular graft interaction and the effect of platelet-inhibitor therapy

Description
A procedure is described that uses 111In-labelled platelets and non traumatic imaging procedure to quantitate platelet deposition on prosthetic biomaterials in humans. Platelet uptake, which was not uniform, was maximal at the anastomoses. Platelet deposition on the graft was reduced in patients who have been treated with aspirin and dipyridamole. The significance of these observations in relation to long-term graft patency remains to be established
