Application of ICP-AES for the determination of Ga and In in plutonium after chemical separation

  • 1. Radiochemistry Division, Bhabha Atomic Research Centre, Mumbai (India)

Description

A solvent extraction technique using 30% TBP in CCl4 has been employed to quantitatively separate plutonium from sample solution and subsequent estimation of indium and gallium by high resolution (Ultima) Inductively Coupled Plasma Atomic Emission Spectrometry (ICP-AES). The quantitative recovery of Ga and In in the separated samples have been confirmed from radiometric studies. The method is useful to estimate these elements from ppm to % level with proper dilution and appropriate sample size. (author)
