Description
A modified continuum shell model in conjunction with the particle-core coupling model is used to calculate the capture of fast neutrons by 13C. Results for the total and differential cross sections as well as the analyzing powers are presented. The calculated 900 cross section is compared with experimental data. Effects like the opening of the f-shell and the existence of primary and secondary doorway states are essential for the description of the experimental data. The same parameters as in a recent study of the elastic and inelastic scattering of neutrons by 13C are taken. The formalism is compared to the direct-semidirect approach. (orig.)
