The LLNL phantom redesigned Sacrilege or progress?

Description
The LLNL phantom has short lungs compared to those of real people. Working with the manufacturer, the Human Monitoring Laboratory has built lungs that are 10 cm longer than the original. These new measurements are based on data published in ICRP 23 - Reference Man. Comparison of the counting efficiencies obtained for the original lungs with those of the extended lungs using the HML's lung counter shows that at energies above 45 keV the difference between the two type of lungs sets is approximately 5%. At lower energies the difference can rises to 40%. (Author)
