Neutron scintillation detector with an electronic device for fast change of the photomultiplier gain

Description

A neutron scintillation detector designed to measure characteristics of neutron pulse fluxes appearing practically at the same time with a power X-radiation is described. To prevent the operation of the detector photomultiplier in the saturation conditions due to the effect of a power light pulse appearing in a scintillator under the action of power radiation, use is made of an electronic device providing a rapid change of the photomultiplier multiplication factor; the device employs avalanche transistors. This device simultaneously increases voltage, during 1-2 ns, to a rated value in three photomultiplier dynodes and maintains this mode during 10 μs
