The hygiene service inspects the gamma radiation dose equivalent rate, the specific activity of gases and aerosols, the contamination of surfaces in the working environment and the contamination of the living environment in nuclear power plants. The spaces of nuclear power plants are divided in the clean zone and the controlled zone in which there are manned, unmanned and semi-unmanned areas. Permanent information on the radiation situation in the nuclear power plant is provided by the dosimetric system consisting of stable and portable dosimetric instruments. Technological dosimetry controls the sealing of the main technological equipment, the effectiveness of devices for the removal of radioactive substances, and controls fuel elements cladding. Personnel is provided with a set of dosemeters. The refuelling period which takes place once a year is the most hazardous stage. (M.D.)
