Description
The angular distributions of the 27Al(γ, p0) and 27Al(γ, p1) reactions were measured over the GDR energy region. Both reactions exhibit considerable anisotropy indicating the effects of multipole interference. From the behaviour of the fitted Legendre polynomial coefficients the principal 1p-1 h configurations in the 27Al(γ, p0) reaction were investigated and an approximate cross section for the E2 component deduced using justifiable assumptions. The angular distribution of the 27Al(γ, p1) reaction is qualitatively similar to that of the 27Al(γ, p0) reaction. However if only a single intermediate configuration is involved it appears that the first excited state (2+) of 26Mg is likely to be populated by psub(3/2) proton emission whereas the ground state (0+) is populated predominantly by fsub(7/2) proton emission from the 27Al GDR.
