Electron jump and the Fe++/Fe+++ ratio in two silicates

Description
We studied biotite and tourmaline by resonant gamma-ray absorption and thus demonstrated the probable existence of the electronic hopping process between ferrous and ferric ions in these samples. The intensity of the lines resulting from this process increases exponentially with temperature. Our results explain the large dispersion of ferrous and ferric iron measurements according to the chemical methods employed. This dispersion arises from the significant heat release in situ during the dissolution of silicates.
Abstract (French)
Nous avons étudié par absorption résonnante de rayons gamma la biotite et la tourmaline et ainsi, nous avons montré l'existence probable dans ces échantillons du processus de saut électronique entre ions ferreux et ferriques. L'intensité des raies issues de ce processus augmente exponentiellement avec la température. Nos résultats expliquent la grande dispersion des dosages du fer ferreux et ferrique selon les méthodes chimiques employées. Elle provient du grand dégagement de chaleur in situ lors de la mise en solution des silicates.Additional details
