Description

[Benzene ring-U-14C]-anilazine and [triazine-U-14C]-anilazine were incubated in a degraded loess soil (Alfisol) in accordance with standard guidelines of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency for studying pesticide degradation in soil. The evolution of 14CO2 was measured and soil samples were extracted at certain intervals using different extraction procedures. After 100 days, the bioavailability to maize plants of the bound residue fractions was studied. The data indicate that 14C derived from anilazine is strongly adsorbed or fixed in the soil. Within a few days after 14C-anilazine application, the uptake of radioactivity by maize amounted to 3-4%. The uptake of unextractable radiocarbon was less than 1% of the applied radioactivity.
