The description is given of a system for purifying the liquid metal coolant of a fast nuclear reactor core, comprising an insulated envelope immersed in the core of the reactor and suspended from the upper shield, a removable plug in the upper shield giving access to the upper part of the interior of the envelope and inside it facilities for cooling a flow of liquid metal taken from the reactor core to a temperature ensuring solidification of the impurities, a system for filtering the cooled liquid metal, a system for heating, at least partially, the purified metal before returning it to the reactor core and a valve for regulating the flow rate of the purified metal returned to the reactor core
