Modification of polymers with carbon-carbon main chain by ion implantation
Description
The reforming of polymers by ion beam is outlined. The polymers taken up as the object are those possessing carbon skeletal structure such as polyimide, polyethylene and so on. When the ion implantation of gas elements, metallic elements and others is made into them, the composition of base materials, the structural change, the distribution of implanted elements and so on are reported. From the aspect of material properties, the improvement of the electrical properties and the optical properties is discussed. Actually many carbon materials are produced by using organic substances as raw materials. The polymers examined were polyimide, polyethylene terephthalate, polyphenylene sulfide and polyethylene. The samples were the films of 100 μm thickness on the market. The ion implantation of Ar, Cu and so on was carried out by Riken 200 kV low current implanter. In the ion-implanted surface layers, carbonization occurred, and this carbon was amorphous. By the ion implantation, the polymers became electroconductive. (K.I.)
