Description
Heavy water management systems, which are unique features of PHWR plants, are discussed. CANDU 6 has various heavy water management systems to store, transfer, recover, clean-up and upgrade heavy water from or within the plant, to monitor heavy water losses and to provide means for prompt identification of heavy water leaks. The conservation of heavy water is a high priority in respect to safety and economy during the design and operation of CANDU plants. With the comprehensive heavy water management systems, the impact of tritiated heavy water leakage and loss is minimized throughout the lift-time of CANDU 6 stations
