Description
Research reactors have played a pivotal role not only in the non-power sector utilization of nuclear energy but also in the evolution of nuclear power programme, as has been amply demonstrated by the Indian research reactor APSARA (1 MW9th), swimming pool type with enriched uranium fuel), CIRUS (40 MW(th), natural uranium fuelled, heavy water moderated and light water cooled) and DHRUVA (100 MW(th), natural uranium fuelled, heavy water moderated and cooled), at Trombay. The present discussion is confined to the role of analytical chemistry in the operation of water cooled and moderated reactors
