X-ray photoemission spectra and electronic band structure of the ternary compounds U3M2M3', M = Al, Ga, M' = Si, Ge
Description
The magnetically ordered compounds U3M2M3' where M = Al, Ga and M' Si, Ge were investigated by computing their electronic band structure and measuring the X-ray photoemission spectra (XPS). The band structure was calculated by the tight-binding linear muffin-tin orbital (TB-LMTO) method in atomic spheres approximation (ASA). The XPS was measured in vacuum (∼5 x 10-10 Torr) on freshly cleaved surfaces of the samples. The valence band spectra agree rather well with the measured ones. The satellite structure of the deep U(4f) lines was recovered and discussed
