DNA-Repair inhibition in vivo and increase in the yield of dominant lethal mutations in drosophila melanogaster after γ-irradiation

Description
Combined treatment with DNA-repair-inhibitors and ionizing radiation increases the mutation rate in microorganisms considerably. The connection between these two parameters in eucaryotic cells is up till now not well studied. Therefore substances already tested in vitro to be DNA-excision repair inhibitors were given to Drosophila larvae and dominant lethal tests were carried out after an γ-irradiation dose of 1 krad. Tween 80, Cortisone, Diazinone and Parathione showed a significant increase in the dominant lethality after irradiation showed no influences on the egg hatchability as a measure of the mutation rate.
