Co-precipitation of Am and Pu in the Am oxalate supernatant using Fe(NO3)3 carrier provides a quick and easy way of recovery of Pu and Am. Thus large volumes of supernatant solutions can be disposed off as wastes which contains only negligible levels of alpha activity
