Description

The LNLXTU tandem is in routine operation since 1982 with accelerating voltages up to proportional14 MV. A vary large variety of beams has been accelerated from proton to bromine; more than 70% of the research program has been done with beams with A>12 (typically Si,S). In 1984 the generator has been at a voltage for about 60% of the total time. No major failures have occurred in these basic components with exception of the ladderton charging system which broke in several point in the fall of 1983 after proportional1000 h of operation and was rebuilt succesfully at LNL, with the supervision of one HVEC field engineer. The present laddertron has been in operation for proportional9000 h. In general the reliability of the system is good and an intensive nuclear physics research program is in progress. (orig.)
