The formation of isomeric iodohydrins from terminal alkenes in the oxidation with the RuCl3-NaIO4 system
Description
Infrared, mass spectroscopy, thin layer chromatography and 1H, 13C NMR were used to study the products of oxidative splitting of terminal double bond in 2-allyl-2,5-dichloro-4-morpholinocyclopent-4-en-1,3-dione under the action of the RuCl3 · 3H2O-NaIO4/MeCN-H2O-CCl4 system. It is shown that periodate oxidation of alkenes catalyzed by RuCl3 results in isomeric iodohydrins. A possible mechanism of their formation is considered. 8 refs.; 2 figs
