Chemically deposited Ni-W-B coatings: composition, structure, and properties

  • 1. RAN, Inst. Fizicheskoj Khimii, Moscow (Russian Federation)

Description

The influence of temperature and components of the solution of chemical-catalytic reduction on the composition of Ni-W-B alloy coatings is investigated. The method of X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy in combination with a layer-by-layer profile analysis is applied to study the chemical state of elements and the composition of surface and bulk layers of Ni-W-B coatings with tungsten and boron concentration up to 28 and 1.8 mas. % (10 and 12 at. %) respectively. It is shown that at the surface of such coatings up to 90 at. % of nickel and up to 80 at. % of boron occur in a reduced form. The alloy precipitates have amorphous structure. Heat treatment regime effect on structure and microhardness of Ni-W-B coatings is analyzed. The coatings with a 10 at.% tungsten content are established to be nonmagnetic
