On role of rescatterings in process of production of particles with large transverse momenta in π-A interactions at 38 GeV/c

Description

An analysis of the momentum characteristics of secondary charged particles from pion-nucleus interactions at 38 GeV/c has been performed. The data were obtained using the streamer chamber magnetic spectrometer RISK. The chamber was trigged by outer detectors when a charged secondary with transverse momentum above 1 GeV/c ('trigger particle') was produced. Noticeable increasing with the target-mass number A of Pout2 (mean square of the projection of the associated particle transverse momentum onto the normal to the trigger particle production plane) is observed. This increase is more significant for the positive associated particles and is correlated with the excess of the positive charge in the event. The results are explained as manifestation of the high-ptr particle production via rescattering of the primary particle or its constituents inside the nucleus
