A model for bubble diffusion in uranium dioxide

  • 1. UKAEA, Warrington. Safety and Reliability Directorate

Description

A mathematical model of bubble migration in UO2 is developed. The basic transport mechanism is considered to be non-localized surface diffusion limited by interaction between the diffusing surface defect and the gas in the bubble, which is represented by a hard sphere equation of state. The predicted bubble diffusivities, as a function of bubble size, temperature and gas composition, compare well with the available experimental data. (orig.)
