Shortage looms ahead

According to the author a major shortage of electricity is a near certainty within the next year or two. And because of the long period - eight to ten years - required to plan, build and commission even the first unit of new thermal (coal-fired) power stations, there is not a great deal that can be done to avoid it. The two biggest reasons for the looming crisis are constraints at Cabora Bassa and Koeberg. Both are tragic cases of political circumstances paralysing brilliant technological achievements.
