Neutron gravitational monochromator

Description

A new slow neutron monochromator based on interaction of free neutrons with the Earth gravitational field is described. Monochromator is formed by three slit collimators arranged along trajectories of neutron motion. Energy of monochromator neutrons is determined by vertical movement of any slit collimator. According to the suggested scheme a gravitational monochromator on 1000-metre transit base of the Dubna IBR-30 pulse fast reactor is designed. It permitted to produce monochromatic neutrons with the energy resolution of 1.8 %, and to determine the gravity force acceleration of incident neutrons with the error of 0.1 % in the energy range of 0.0175-0.4223 eV
