Book

The common genesis of energy eigenstates in the nuclear 1s, od shell

  • 1. Dept. of Physics and Atmospheric Science, Drexel Univ., Philadelphia, PA 19104

Description

Shell-model calculations for nuclear states in the region A=18-38 are described. The important features of these calculations are their systematic utilization of the complete allowable basis spaces of N-particle Od/sub 5/2/ - Is/sub 1/2/ - Od/sub 3/2/ configurations and their genesis from a single formulation of the model Hamiltonian, in which the two-body matrix elements are scaled as a function of A/sup -0.3/. The antecedents of these calculations are discussed and the features which distinguish the new work are noted. The theoretical results reproduce individual level energies and sequences and the aggregate statistical features of each of the A = 19-37 nuclei as well or better than previous calculations, even though all previous calculations have dealt with considerably smaller ranges of data
