Study of π0 production in anti p p and anti p Ne interactions at 4.1 GeV/C using 12-foot bubble chamber with track sensitive target

Description

We have used a track sensitive target (filled with hydrogen) inside the Argonne 12-ft bubble chamber (filled with a Ne-H2 mixture) to observe anti p p interaction at 4.1 GeV/c and the associated π0's in the interaction. We report cross sections for anti p p and anti p Ne interactions as well as the inclusive #betta#(π0) production cross sections in these anti p p and anti pNe reactions. We emphasize here the study of the anti p p interactions which involve multiple pion production only and no baryon production (annihilation processes). The characteristics of the annihilation process are presented in detail and are compared with recent theoretical ideas
