Feedback from operator experience and impact on alarm processing in 900- and 1300-MW(electric) plants operated by EdF

After an introductory overview of the duties of plant operating personnel and the information display facilities provided to help them correctly discharge their duties, the author briefly discusses the standardization of the instrumentation and control (I and C) structure used within both series (900 and 1300 MW(electric)) of plants currently operating in France as well as the technological differences between the two series. This should permit a better understanding of the problems encountered and of the design changes planned in the near term, i.e., as of the first 1400-MW(electric) N4 model plant slated for startup in 1991
