Grain counting with the Gould IP8500 image processing system

Description

A semiautomated system was developed to count autoradiographic grains on thin section microscope preparations. The system was designed to produce grain counts as accurate as those of manual methods and to be fast enough to be used comfortably in an interactive mode. The method uses a 512X512X8 digitized image containing dark grains of sizes varying from 5 to 200 pixels on a nonuniform background. The image can be divided into regions of interest for which a count, as well as an area, is computed
