Nuclear energy, ecology and Chernobyl

Description

An address by the President of the World Energy Conference considers the role of nuclear energy in terms of ecology and public perception. Alternative forms of energy are discussed and advantages of the concentration of energy associated with nuclear power are outlined. The greenhouse effect and subsequent problems are discussed and the effects of the Chernobyl accident within Europe, but particularly France are described. It is concluded that nuclear energy is safe and that its ecological advantages are not to be dismissed. (Author)
