Transfer Factor of Cs-137 and Co-60 Radionuclides from Water to Gold Fish

  • 1. Centre for Development of Radioactive Waste Management, National Nuclear Energy Agency, Serpong (Indonesia)

Description

A study to estimate transfer factor of Cs-137 and Co-60 radionuclides from water to gold fish has been carried out. The experiment used aquarium as a cultivating media. Gold fish was placed into aquarium filled with 50 liters of water and Cs-137 also Co-60 concentrations of 10 Bq/ml. Sampling was carried out every 5 days for observing time of 90 days. Transfer factor was obtained in 30th day after radionuclide content of gold fish reached maximum. This result was confirmed by additional observation using Cs-137 and Co-60 concentrations of 15 and 20 Bq/ml. Data from the three concentrations found the transfer factor of 12.86 ± 0.54 ml/g for Cs-137 and 3.55 ± 0.55 ml/g for Co-60. (author)
