Intense high energy metal ion beams
Description
Various methods of metal ion production will be discussed in regard to their applicability to high current ion sources. Depending on the accelerator, an ion source is run either in dc mode, or is pulsed with a duty cycle from 0.1 % to 50 %. Such considerations influence the choice of the method of metal ion production. As examples, the multi-cusp ion source CHORDIS and the MEVVA source will be discussed in detail. (author)
