Description
This paper presents the regulatory views of the US Nuclear Regulatory Commission staff on some of the significant issues related to the seismic and faulting design of a geologic repository. The issues addressed include: (1) misconceptions related to the use of Appendix A to 10 CFR Part 100; (2) deterministic versus probabilistic assessment considerations; (3) consideration of fault displacements in the design of a geologic repository; and (4) internal consistency of regulations for seismic and faulting design of nuclear facilities
