Correction of scattered electron flight path for the improvement of neutron energy resolution

  • 1. Tohoku Univ., Sendai (Japan). Lab. of Nuclear Science

Description

The (e, e' n) experiment group has hitherto conducted some experiments on coincidence counting emitted neutrons and scattered electrons mainly together with decay of giant resonance in nuclei of 7Li, 12C, 13C, 16O and 40Ca. At this time, an attempt to improve energy resolution of the emitted neutrons. In this paper, at first a method to detect neutrons in the (e, e' n) group was introduced and some elements contributing to the energy resolution and their correction method were described to report some results using actual experimental data. And, correction of scattered electron flight within LDM (Large Dipole Magnet) was also tried. As a result, the experimental data on-16 (e, e' n) did not reach to the expected value (0.45 nsec) because of low time resolution of a back-up counter, but could confirm its correction effect. In next (e, e' n) experiment, an energy resolution near the expected value would be obtained by improvement of the counter. (G.K.)
