Study of recontamination of chemically decontaminated stainless steel surfaces

Description
A laboratory loop test and an in-plant loop test were carried out to investigate phenomena and mechanisms of recontamination of surfaces of components in primary coolant systems during exposure to coolant after chemical decontamination, and to consider the countermeasures against recontamination. The results showed that recontamination would occur by the same mechanism as the initial few hundred hours' contamination by Cobalt-60 in BWR plants; however, a rapid recontamination rate would be inhibited if decontamination was conducted according to the procedures presented in the paper
