Description
Optical absorption in the 200 - 280-nm spectral region was measured for compressed and liquid oxygen in the 60 - 200 Amagat, 290 - 135 K, and in the 400 - 800 Amagat, 150 - 90 K density and temperature ranges, respectively. The square-law density dependence of absorption was found to hold throughout the density and temperature ranges studied, the induced absorption coefficient being invariable during transition from the gaseous to liquid phase. The induced absorption coefficients were determined for the O2-X mixtures, where X stands for Ar, Kr, Xe, N2, and CF4. The absorption efficiency was ascertained to be identical for the oxygen-Ar, N2, and CF4 pairs, whereas it increased by more than an order of magnitude from Ar to Xe in the oxygen-inert gas pair sequence. 12 refs., 1 fig., 4 tabs
