Radiation induced effects in uranium doped calcium chlorophosphate: An EPR and TSL study (Preprint No. RC.14)

  • 1. Bhabha Atomic Research Centre, Bombay (India). Radiochemistry Div.

Description

Trap level spectroscopic studies of uranium doped calcium chlorapatite (Ca5(PO4)3Cl) were conducted using electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) and thermally stimulated luminescence (TSL) techniques. Two glow peaks at 440 K and 495 K were observed (heating rate = 2.5 K/sec.) and their spectral characteristics have shown that UO42- acts as the luminescent centre. Radical ions such as H0, ClO2-, O-, etc. were produced on γ-irradiation at room temperature and of these only H0, thermally unstable beyond 440 K was found to be responsible for the TSL.
