On the initiation of earthquakes by undergroung nuclear explosions

  • 1. AN SSSR, Moscow (Russian Federation). Inst. Fiziki Zemli

Description

Data on seismicity on Nevada and Semipalatinsk test sites at different periods of time after underground nuclear explosions (UNE) are presented. Hypothesis about increase of seismicity of California during 0-5 days after UNE at Nevada test site is accepted with probability of p=0.9937, and probability of seismicity growth in the Middle Asia after UNE during 0-10 days is equal to p=0.9995. It is concluded, that seismic waves of explosion have a stimulating effect on the process development in the center of prepared earthquake
