Stress-corrosion cracking and surface-pitting tests of NiCrFe alloy bolts (LWBR development program)

Description

Accelerated corrosion tests confirmed the adequate resistance to stress corrosion cracking (SCC) of the specific heats of NiCrFe X-750 and NiCrFe 600 used as bolts in the LWBR. SCC acceleration was achieved by running autoclave corrosion tests at 6800F (well above the LWBR core operating temperatures of approximately 5250F to 5600F). Component stress levels were representative of maximum service stresses. No specimens from heats of either alloy suffered SCC
