The author carried out research at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) in Golden, Colorado, USA, for two months. Next to the results of a coordinated project on the stable form of thin films of amorphous silicon, deposited by means of hot-wire decomposition of silane, he reports on the investigation of the US policy in the field of thin films for photovoltaic energy conversion. 2 figs
