Detectors for Nuclear Spectrometry Based on Ce-Activated Lutetium-Yttrium Oxyorthosilicate Single Crystals

  • 1. Physical Crystallography Scientific-Technological Centre, Tbilisi (Georgia)

Description

Scintillation characteristics of lutetium-yttrium oxyorthosilicate single crystals, activated by Ce(Ce2-x(Lu1-yYy)2(1-x)Sio5) with dimensions of [10x10x2] mm3 and [10x10x10]mm3 were received. The best optically homogeneous crystal samples were of the following parameters: energy resolution over 137 Cs-not less than 10-11%; decay time-not more rhan 41-43 ns; light yield-relative NaI(TI)-90-97%. In the course of the work radioactive sources137Cs and 22Na were used. The afterglow of these crystals has also been researched. (authors
