Internal irradiation of the population with long-lived radionuclides after the Chernobylsk power plant accident
- 1. Khar'kovskij Nauchno-Issledovatel'skij Inst. Meditsinskoj Radiologii, Kharkov (Ukraine)
Description
90Sr is the most danger for health in accident or nuclear explosion due to long half-life (28.3 year) and ability to be accumulated in bones. Increase of stable calcium content in food reduces 90Sr accumulation in body. Sodium alginate is the most effective means in decrease of strontium retention. 85Sr accumulation in animals received foodstaffs with alginates during 30 days was studied. Sodium alginate concentration in different products was 0.5 to 3%, bud daily intake of preparation in animal was 0.15 to 0.3 g/day. It was shown that alginates and Crambe (from, which alginic acid was produced) introduced into foods, didn't lose the ability to reduce the absorption of radionuclide in GIT
