Description

Characterization of mechanical characteristic especially hardness, density and microstructure of aluminium alloy, AIMgSi, after heating processes at the temperature of 58-500oC and heating time between 3-12 hours following by three cooling processes of different cooling rate I.e. : water quenching, cooling in air or in sands has been carried out. The hardness, density and microstructure than were determined. The experiments showed that the heating up to 300 oC for the three cooling process caused the decreasing al AIMgSi hardness from 76.2 kg/mm2 to 34.4 kg/mm2, 34 kg/mm2 dan 33.7 kg/mm2 respectively for 3 hours heating, to 32.9 kg/mm2, 32.5 kg/mm2 dan 31.8 kg/mm2 respectively for 6 hours heating and to 34.4 kg/mm2, 33.1 kg/mm2 dan 31.1 kg/mm2 respectively for 12 hours heating. The heating caused also the change of AIMgSi of microstructure. At the heating of 85oC to 300oC the grains coarse from 0.225 mm to 0.24 mm, while at 500oC the grains size were 0.18 mm. Heat treatment and cooling process which were carried out give no significant change of AIMgSi density
