γ-radiolysis of liquid pentanes. The role of positive ions in the formation of stable products in irradiated isopentane and n-pentane

Description
The influence of NH3 and C2H5OH on the stable product yields in γ-irradiated liquid isopentane and n-pentane has been investigated. Different scavenging efficiencies towards the ionic precursors of some light products in the two C(5) isomers have been found, and the relative reactivities of ethanol and ammonia have been calculated. A scheme describing the main ionic fragmentation reactions in isopentane and n-pentane has been proposed. (author)
