Chemistry models in the VICTORIA code
Description
The VICTORIA code is designed to be a module of the MELPROG severe accident analysis code. The functions of VICTORIA in MELPROG are fission product release from fuel, vapor-phase and aerosol physics, and chemical interactions involving fuel, structures, coolant, and aerosols. A stand-alone version of the code additionally provides independent capabilities for gaseous and aerosol transport within the coolant flow channel. The chemistry models within VICTORIA directly affect all the other functions of the code. This is due to the fact that chemical speciation and physical phase, both of which are determined in the chemistry calculation, are of fundamental importance in determining the characteristics of the various transport processes modelled in the remainder of the code. For example, condensed phase species are not allowed to diffuse across the fuel-clad gap. Rather, only vapor-phase species can diffuse across the gap. The importance of the chemistry models to the other physical models in the code is established by the nature of the models used
