A relay-diffusion model for the transport of charge generated by ionizing radiation in polymers

  • 1. Nauchno-Issledovatel'skij Fiziko-Khimicheskij Inst., Moscow (Russian Federation)

Description

The kinetic laws of electric conductivity in polymers under conditions of continuous radiation-induced charge generation in the bulk are considered. It is shown that the experimental results can be interpreted on the basis of a relay-diffusion model of charge transport, according to which the charge in transferred between the local centers by means of molecular motions. A significant increase of the electric conductivity in polymers in the vicinity of the glass transition temperature is explained by participation of cooperative molecular motions in the charge transfer, which are accompained by local structural rearrangements and form the low-frequency region of the molecular relaxation spectrum. 16 refs
