Principles of a computerized simulator for the training of an operator's cognitive functions

System SPVS, a computerized training simulator, was developed for the training of nuclear power plant personnel. The system does not provide simulation of the nuclear power plant operating modes such as could serve technological analyses or analytical calculations. It is meant to present the plant's operating mode in the way the operator sees and perceives it. The trainee's workplace is equipped with three graphics color terminals. The central monitor displays a special simulation model and the values of the main parameters of the plant's operating mode. The monitor on the left provides other information on the nuclear power plant equipment, the extent being that of the ORION information system at the unit control room of the Jaslovske Bohunice V-2 plant. The monitor on the right has so far been used for pedagogical needs. The SPVS schoolroom is designed to accomodate the teacher's workplace and four trainees' workplaces. The schoolroom is also equipped with a TV circuit, slide projectors and a back projector. Experimental testing proved the usefulness of the SPVS system design. The replacement is envisaged of the BGT type graphics terminals with IBM-PC compatible personal computers as is the implementation of an expert system at the display on the right.
