Optimization of microstructures for fatigue resistant engineering alloys

  • 1. Massachusetts Inst. of Tech., Cambridge (USA). Dept. of Materials Science and Engineering

Description

In this review some of the current ideas concerning improvements in resistance to fatigue are discussed; emphasizing the basic structure-property relationship where possible. It will be shown that in most cases improvements in the fatigue resistance of engineering alloys will result from the reduction of the width of the scatter band of the fatigue properties through tight controls of the microstructure rather than through the discovery of new metallurgical principles
